Student Activities

The students of Vidyasagar School of Social Work are involved in activities outside their course curriculum to channelize their energy in various social actions and also develop their acumen in applied social sciences and social research. Some of the activities undertaken by the students are:

National Service Scheme (NSS):
Vidyasagar School of Social Work has been allotted one unit of 100 volunteers of NSS, since 2000. The main objective of the scheme is to involve students to work for community with community participation in areas like adult education, afforestation, construction and maintenance of water bodies, basic health care, dissemination of appropriate technology suitable for rural people etc. The NSS unit of the Vidyasagar School of Social Work has been actively engaged in different types of activities with participation from the community.

The NSS Volunteers visit a number of Governmental and non-governmental organizations engaged in various social welfare activities and are also involved in community development activities in districts like Paschim Medinipur. Some of the regular tasks of the NSS volunteers include resource mapping of the area, participatory poverty analysis, creating awareness on basic health and hygiene issues, dissemination of information on Government sponsored programmes etc.

Blood Donation Camp:
Every year, the students of VSSW organize blood donation camp as a part of their social responsibility. The blood donation camp is organized in collaboration with the Central Blood Bank, Kolkata. The faculty members, students and the staff of the Institute enthusiastically take part in the blood donation camp.

Social Research/Seminars & Workshops:
Students of Institute especially the final year students of MSW are involved in data collection and collation of various research projects undertaken by the Institute. In the recent past, the students have conducted surveys on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), health and hygiene issues, rural development programmes. This has helped them gain exposure to real life issues integrate their theoretical knowledge on social policies with that of practical situation prevailing at the grass-root level. Seminars, workshops and lecture sessions on various contemporary issues are regularly organized for the students enabling them to get insight on contemporary policy matters and development paradigm as well as get an opportunity to interact with the senior professionals and other luminaries in the field.
